WinterFest 2009 activities this week include the Polar Bear Plunge at 2 p.m. Saturday on Green Lake to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota, sponsored by Kandiyohi County Sheriff Office and Willmar Police Department; and basketball 3-on-3 tournaments at Prairie Meadows from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for grades 5 through 8.
Prairie Woods ELC
The Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center welcomes hikers, snowshoers and skiers on the grounds during daylight hours at no cost. The seven miles of ski trails are open from 9 a.m. to sunset. No dogs on ski trails, and pets should be on a leash. Ski and snowshoe rental available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and other times by appointment. Sibley State Park

Sibley State park programs are on the weekends at the Interpretive Center and are led by the park naturalist or visiting expert. A vehicle permit is required to enter the park and they are available at the park office. For more information call 320-354-2002.
Moonlight snowshoe hike: 7 p.m. today, weather permitting; may be cancelled due to clouds. Enjoy an evening of showshoeing under the light of the moon with a guide leading the walk. Snowshoes will be provided to the first 20 people, 10 years of age and older, who call for reservations, 354-2002 or 354-2055. Kids must be accompanied by one adult. If you have your own snowshoes you are also welcome on the hike.

Snowshoes will be provided to the first 10 kids who call to reserve a pair. Kids must be accompanied by one adult, for reservations, 320-354-2055. Refreshments and a nature DVD will follow the hike.
Willmar Civic Center
Skating and curling will be either in the Civic Center or the Blue Line Arena; $2 for all ages; $1.50 skate rental, unless otherwise stated.
Open skating: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sundays
Leisure time hockey, adults only: 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. Sunday
Open curling, age 8 and older: 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday; stones and brooms provided.
Outdoor skating rinks
Warming houses: Garfield, Lincoln and Hilltop, open and staffed, at 4 p.m. school days, 1 p.m. weekends and school holidays; close at 9 p.m. nightly.
