Willmar gardener on Pioneer TV

APPLETON -- Prairie Yard and Garden will feature "The Evolving Garden" at 7:30 p.m. today on Pioneer Public Television.

Host Larry Zilliox visits the yard of Steve Cederstrom in Willmar and they discuss the changes made to his yard over a nine-year period. Cederstrom provides the history and creativeness behind the changes he made in the many spaces defining his yard, including softening the front yard with annuals perched in window boxes and shrub roses along a curved edge. The changes in the backyard include a stone patio, a rejuvenated back property line with an informal garden, punctuated with a new potting shed.

Next week's program on April 1 will feature Randy Siem, an award-winning dahlia grower from Litchfield. He will talk about the characteristics important to raising state-fair winning dahlias.

The April 8 program will be about the Willmar Farmers Market. Miriam Vandesteeg will talk about the history regarding how she and her husband began the farmer's market in Willmar.

Each episode is repeated at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Design Center fundraiser at Barn

WILLMAR --Kerkhoven native Esther Peterson will present a violin concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at The Barn Theatre.

There will be appetizers, wine and coffee at 6:30 p.m. with Raeanna Gislason playing the grand piano.

CRAYO concert is Sunday

HUTCHINSON -- The Crow River Area Youth Orchestra spring concert will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church Hutchinson.

The orchestra is made up of youth from a wide area and includes Morgan Mack from Olivia and Connar Haugen and Anna Haugen from Willmar. The director is Lisa Zeller.

They will perform "The Carnival of the Animals" by Saint-Saens, "Concerto for Viola, Organ and Strings" by Hayden, the "St. Paul's Suite" by Holst and Hoe Down from Rodeo by Copland.

Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students at the door. The church is located at 400 Franklin St. S.W. in Hutchinson.

Boy Scouting exhibit opens

WILLMAR --A new display, "100 years of Boys Scouting," is now open at the Kandiyohi County Historical Society in Willmar.

This exhibit was created by Cal Miner of Willmar. The items included in the display are from his personal collection along with many artifacts that belonged to former Kandiyohi County Boy Scouts.

The display will run until December 2010.

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. weekends Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.
