Flooding will shut down a segment of U.S.Highway 12 east of Ortonville before noon Friday

A section of highway east of Ortonville will be closed due to flooding.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol will close Highway 12 from U.S. Highway 75 to Big Stone County Road 21 before noon Friday due to flooding.

Traffic will be detoured using Highway 75 and Big Stone County Road 21.

Highway 12 will remain closed until further notice.

Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
