By saying "no thanks" to a block grant of this amount, you can imagine our likelihood of being offered another amount of this sort. "Here, have some free money for low income housing." "No thanks, we'd rather pander to our own petty egos." Ridiculous. This does need to go to the full council.

So what does this mean in the whole scheme of things? It doesn't mean that the project will still go through even though 80% of Willmar doesn't want it. Gardner, we are all so proud of you being a little puppet for the mayor and not listening to the people that elected you. You are obviously too arrogant to know better, but you should be ashamed!!!!!!!!

Jay, aren't we currently experiencing our current housing situation because of the exact reason that you (and the mayor) seem to be promoting -- that people who did not have the capacity to own homes and never should have owned homes were "helped" to own homes? It would seem that if there was no vacancy and no availibility, then we should consider providing private parties with incentives to build more housing. But the free market should be allowed to fill needs before new capacity is subsidized.

If the mayors reason is because there is no full council, why don't they revisit it when full council is present before one person (the mayor) makes the call?

Council can always override veto.

The Mayor needs to go!! Thanks to Christianson, Swenson, Dokken, & Fagerlie. These members truly care about Willmar.

Maybe he and the other council members feel it is a good thing to help low to moderate income people own their own homes. Maybe its just as simple as that.

I agree that the full council should be involved with the decision of a grant that of that size. Seems very reasonable. Not all citizens of Willmar are against making housing affordable for low to moderate income families.

Having grown up in Willmar, I am dismayed to see such a division in the city government. To me it is plain to see that the people do not want this project going up at all.
