Cathy all you say is elementary , the point being everything that was paid into S.S. went into the Gen. fund, every Pres. since Lyndon Johnson has done this, consequently if every Pres, took every dime out of S.S. that was paid and transferred it into the Gen fund , how did the two Bushe's take out the most, zero is zero., also if S.S. I.O.U's are not honored by the U.S. Gov. then that constitutes default. Joe is implying that they took money out of S.S. and it then was erased from existence , in effect it has, but again if the I.O.U. is worthless, which they well may be, that means our country can not honor it's obligations, of which S.S. is just a small part, Obama is already well on the way to running deficit spending by three times what Bush did.and still picking up speed.

John SS has been dipped into by our presidents to pay down the deficit. Who really cares what is put in there, it is still being taken out, and not replaced. The trust fund you talk about John is nothing more then an accounting device full of IOU's. There has never been any money in SS trust fund and never will be, just worthless paper which shows what was borrowed because its not replaced only projected. The US treasury receives tax money from the employees and their employee which is in turn paid out as SS or used by the government. Joe is correct John, Bush Sr and Bush Jr have placed more IOU'S in the trust fund, then any other president. Unless congress acts soon tax payers will have to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into SS or it can go solvent.

Joe I have told you this before, but i guess it just doesn't register with you, the money from S.S. goes into the general fund , what goes into the S.S. fund is an I.O.U., has been that way since Lyndon Johnson, formated it that way.

Harold where was this so called bleeding heart of yours a year ago when the president was criticized cleaning out SS? Then he wanted to privatize it as well. No Harold the propaganda is what you choose to believe because, you are very uninformed as usual. Sorry Harold Obama is not the blame for foreclosures, and the bankruptcies, that happened on the last presidents watch, remember? You and others blamed the liberals for allowing mortgage companies and banks to lend to everyone, even after Bush made his speech in 2003, that stated everyone should have a chance at owning the American dream. The bleeding will take some time to stop Harold so save your misleading comments for Rush. By the way Bush and his father have taken more from SS then any other president. Hey, how about that fact, then you wonder why there is no raise.

Welcome to the world we all live in -- most of us still working haven't gotten a cost of living increase in a few years and we're paying into a SS system we won't see a cent from!
