I head that Dunn Bros closed also... unless my coworker was mistaken. He mentioned that his daughter was hired at Dunn Brothers and when she arrived to start working yesterday I believe, she was greeted by a sign on the door that read, "closed for good". He could have very well been talking about Northern Grounds, but I could have been certain that it was Dunn Brothers... it's no surprise either. All that construction in that area seems to have gone on all year now. The detours make it impossible for someone to know how to get into thier parking lot.

I wouldn't say it's beyond redemption, Larry. There are still many businesses that are active and are keeping their doors open. I just wish NG was still one of them.

I heard that the people that pulled the plug on them in Tiffany Square were the ones that started up the other coffee shop that moved in there afterwards but the new place didn`t last long. I just think we have too many of these kind of coffee shops around so the ones in the best locations are the ones that will survive. Uptown Willmar is not a place to open up any new business. I feel bad for the people who ran Northern Grounds because it was a good place to go.

More troubling than the closure of a coffee shop are those that complain about stimulus projects and the state agencies that implement them. Is it better to have agovernment jobs than a coffee shop? Absolutely. The Audacity of Hope!

What a shame. Judy ran a great place. Their location in Tiffany Square was more ideal than their downtown spot, but the landlord at TS sort of pulled an end-run "get out" maneuver on them. I generally split my coffee purchases between NG and LuLu Beans, but LuLu's will get all of it now. Nothing against Dunn Bros or Caribou, but local businesses should get preference.

You are right Ron, first street drew a bigger crowd. People who use to buy their mud on first street, now head for the coffee shop by Best buy. Starbucks had closed a bunch of coffee shops last Oct. and closed a few more this year as well. Coffee can be hit or miss, but nothing seems to effect Dunkin Donuts?

I don`t think their uptown location helped either. They had a good thing going when it was on first street, in Tiffany Square. The place was used packed.
