Doug - I guess the reason I didn't remember the "Snack Bar" was because I was thinking of businesses from the 1950's & 1960's. Larry H. - the bakery on the NE corner of 5th & Benson did not come in there until at least the late 1970's, more likely the mid-1980's. I used to go there when I worked downtown. Prior to that, that building housed the Star Grocery which I mentioned earlier. I also went to the old Junior High (now WEAC), starting during it's first year as the junior high. I escaped having Hattie Rosentretor for phys. ed until 10th grade in the new Sr. High. Anyone remember history/social studies teacher nicknamed "Mush"? Luckily, I never had him for a teacher. I think my all-time favorite teacher thru both jr. & sr. high school years was Mrs. Elaine Adams for various math classes - I had her 3 years out of the 6.

I'm sorry I didn't come here sooner - what a wonderful trip down memory lane! Although, I think many of you "outdate" me in Willmar { ;-) } and some of those business were gone by the time I moved to town. But, I remember most of the retail stores mentioned downtown... and the old theater only operated for a few years after our family moved to Willmar. Interesting to see someone mention S&L - that store is the reason we moved to town... my father was the store manager for a time. I have lots of fun memories of sliding down the loading chutes into the basement in cardboard boxes! Then, when S&L closed, he moved on to manage Bostwicks - downtown, and eventually both stores in the mall, as well.

Kathy- Yes, it was a cool place to be. I have many fond memories of Rice. Playing golf with a mallet and softball, ping pong, etc. Those were the days.
