No one should be allowed to use funds from a cashed-in life insurance or 401k policy as the down payment money on a home, regardless of the lender being a private agency or a government one.

Good old Oscar Meyer eating Barney Frank will again come to the rescue. Maybe Nancy and Reid can also help out.

Oh boy - do I hate to do this - but, technically, I think Harold is right. (Not about all the consiracy, buying the next election stuff...) At least he seems to be right about the fact that this is not about Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae issues that led to the previous housing market tank. This seems to be about what FHA is doing, since Mac and Mae, that could potentially lead to another repeat performance of last year's crash... loaning criteria still too low, resulting in loans to people who really can't maintain their ability to pay them back by requiring less money down (and more money per month, as a result) and thereby opening up the market to those who are technically less qualified in the long run. So, maybe, it's actualy a combination of "then and now" - eased regulations resulting in continued poor lending decisions...?

Harold-Everything Mr. Will is commenting on in this column happened last year BEFORE the elections. Bush-remember him? The one who gave in to lobbyists to NOT add more regulations to the FHA?
