Thank goodness, we now are free of the only welfare fraud in Kandiyohi County; because no one else would ever think of this scheme.

I wonder if the sentence would compare to a person of another color?? And yeah in reality it will be a cold day before any of that money is paid back.. You can't help but wonder how much of this is going on.

Brad - they likely already have....one new name for welfare, and another new name for work....all they need to do is move to another county.

When these people commit fraud like this, are they not eligible for welfare ever again? Or, I suppose they can just change their name again...

Casey - I suppose, too, if she's on probation for 10 years, she could actually have all that time to accomplish the community service...

Carie, it didn't say how long she gets to fulfill her 2080 hours, maybe she can do that part time over several years while working for pay, full time.

Well, working 2080 hours of community service (full time job) will be interesting... how will she put in 40 hrs a week in community service, and still earn money to support the household, while being available to parent the children, etc...? Maybe that's why he wasn't given the same sentence... to allow him to work a paying job, to support the household? I hate to say it - but I think they'll probably both just move out of MN, and leave the debt behind.

She is ordered to work a full time job for a year for free and it looks like she is responsible for the full repayment of the welfare fraud. Shouldn't he need to pay on that bill too? I suppose it's only her because she signed the papers, not him. I didn't read any mention of being barred from welfare under her real name, but maybe that is the states responsibility and not the courts.

Brad, she would only need to report the friends income if they shared food for the food stamp program.
