I will compare auto insurance to health insurance and my reasoning isn't exactly apples and oranges..........Here is the real reason health insurance is so high and it has nothing to do with the insurance company profits as you would be led to believe. Lets look at car insurance, what exactly does it do? It covers the costs that are too great for one to handle in the accident situation or emergency situations....where am I going with this? Look how the health care and insurance system is overly abused. When you have a flat tire do you expect the insurance company to pay 80% of the cost to fix the flat? But yet when we go in for twisting an ankle or a little cough....bam...80% paid by the insurance. The system is so abused its no wonder we have the high premiums. Check the profit margins for most insurance companies....I think you will be surprised. I'm still waiting for one of the health care bill supporters to take me up on stepping up and paying for any increases to my health care costs under these new proposed bills........if my rates are not going change......come on.....step up to the plate and defend your plan by putting it in writing that you will pay my increase cost......or you can hide under the table like you are so used to..........up to the challenge???????

Comparing auto insurance to health insurance is apples and oranges. First it is unconstitutional for the feds to force citizens to purchase anything. Car insurance mandates come from the state and it is not mandated to protect the purchaser it is to protect people or property damaged by the car owner. Here in MN we not longer have to even prove we have insurance in order to get our tabs. We all know there are lots of people driving around without insurance and they are the ones who you won't pay for the damages they incur.

If you notice when the dems are talking about this subject to don't talk about heathCARE they talk about "affordable insurance". Just because a person has insurance doesn't mean they will get CARE. They never talk about guaranteeing quality care or quantity of care.

Apparently Howard Dean was correct saying the Dems were afraid of the trial lawyers - page 1431-1433 of the bill: Section 2531, entitled “Medical Liability Alternatives,” establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]…… a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys’ fees or imposes caps on damages. http://biggovernment.com/2009/10/30/pelosi-health-care-bill-blows-a-kiss-to-trial-lawyers/#more-23042

Kevin - when this country was founded, women weren't even allowed to vote...and I know you know that. I was pointing out that if the politicians of today were the 'politicians' of then, this country would likely never have been formed....they'd still be arguing over some petty little thing like the color of ink used or something...one would want black, another blue...some idiot would want to import another color, yet another would want green...SSDD.

"The health proposal will rquire citizens to carry insurance and will penalize them if they don't." Should we use car insurance as a comparison. By law you are required to carry car insurance. You are required to verify (say) that you have it on your license apllication or renewal. Now what percentage of folks are out there driving without insurance. 20% ? 30% ? Take those percentages and extrapolate them into the health care debate and we might end up with more than their bogus claim of 47 million people uninsured.

So what if its hundreds of pages....republicans can read, correct? They do know that the democrats will be expected to read it as well, don't they? They are PAID to read such things, are they not? They were ELECTED to read such things, were they not? If they don't like it, why don't they come up with their own stack of papers to read? This country was not founded by men who sat back and whined about everything they were elected and expected to do.
