Sorry, Larry - I didn't get that impression at all. I don't see racism is being the reason for welfare programs, affirmative action, etc... wanting to help people who need a hand isn't racisim - not unless you think that minorities (people of other races and cultures) are the only ones who need the help. And I do not think that minorities are the only groups of people who struggles, run into hard times, and could benefit from a helping hand on occassion - in fact, I don't see those who need help as belonging to one group of people or another... I see them as individuals, and race, cultural background, is inconsequential to personal need. And I certainly wouldn't say our government is "white" - a system established by white Europeans, yes - but currently implemented by a wide variety of people, from multiple backgrounds. -- Is there a word that describes someone who makes assumptions about other people's character, believes that someone is inherently inferior, based on their political affiliation??

Corky - actually - "Racisim: ra·cism [ ráy sìzzəm ] - noun - Definition: 1. animosity toward other races: prejudice or animosity against people who belong to other races 2. belief in racial superiority: the belief that people of different races have different qualities and abilities, and that some races are inherently superior or inferior." http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_1861697668/racism.html

"........With the likes of Rush, and Hannity, Beck and Dobbs guiding people its sad to say that ignorance will continue" It never ceases to amaze me how some people can lay racism on other people when they have their heads so far up their backside they wouldn't know what true racism is if it jumped out and bit them. True racism is enslaving an entire group of people based on their ethnicity. This is accomplished by creating a dependency for which they owe their entire existence and survival to the people that are creating that dependency...... I.e. the Democrats and their liberal backers. The empty suit that currently occupies the highest office in this land is a prime example. His stimulus program, and various other welfare redistribution schemes are nothing more than payback for the people that so foolishly put him in office. If you doubt that take a look at where the stimulus money went. To you people, in your skewered way of thinking, a racist is someone that disagrees with your position. That is very wrong, the true racist is the one that buys his election by enslaving a group of people based on their ethnicity and is emboldened the slavish devotion of their followers. Pathetic!

Tell that to Rick who states everyone down south is nice. Ignorance or racism will never go away, and that is the sad truth. America was built on the sweat and blood of many cultures, and prejudice came along with that. With the likes of Rush, and Hannity, Beck and Dobbs guiding people its sad to say that ignorance will continue, but pay back does come around, you reap what you sow so they say. I guess the Rebel flag still shines brightly with those who wear the white hoods, you know, those prominate people in the all white community, that act as if this nation was built on their backs and they are the only culture in America.

Ahhhh... the so-called patriotism movement promoted by the likes of Beck, Dobbs, and company... isn't it great? Who cares about such silly things as laws, the constitution, and basic common sense when it's so much easier to complain, be bigots, and hide behind the flag while doing it.

I wonder how they can issue a ticket when America doesn't have a set language. I do understand that a person driving should be able to read road signs, but, when a person vacations in another country that has a different language, they don't know how to read their road signs either. Does this mean that if a person from France came here on vacation, rented a car, had a violation of some sort while driving, they would be ticketed for not speaking English?

I do agree - it seems the officers issuing the tickets lept at an opportunity to "make a point" to people... Spanish speaking people. It also seems that others within the legal system decided to turn a blind eye, as well - the officer's supervisors, the clerks who procesed tickets and payments... and anyone else who's desk this info ran across. How could it not be racially motivated? It seems to be obvious - when an officer interacted with someone who did not speak English (or spoke very little), that officer took the opportunity to issue a ticket for not speaking the language. Maybe the initial reason for the officer's contact with that person wasn't based on ethnicity, but the subsequent language ticket was.
