Gary - I understand your loyalty and sympathy for a friend. But keep in mind, it's been reported numerous times that both Les Jr. and Jammie admitted to taking the money.

“He would gladly admit he doesn't take well to slackers, and people who want to sit idly by, or be armchair quarterbacks”. You mean like the city council members (excluding Sharon L.) who are sitting idly by not doing their jobs for what is the best interest of the people who donated to that smelt fry fund? So what you are saying is it was a different Jamie Schneider that those checks were written out to and cashed by?

I grew up in that small town and this whole thing is so blown out of proportion it is ludicrious. I don't know even IF Les Jr. and his wife took money from the account they are charged with, and am waiting to hear if they are convicted. Secondly, if they did, obviously they shouldn't have. The problem is Les Jr. is the best thing to happen to that town in 100 years. He is a GREAT cop, with great people skills and no "power trip", that many small town cops have. He works with people to settle their disputes, and does not go out looking for trouble, nor does he write a ton of traffic tickets for petty offenses. He has the respect of 98% of the community, and deserves a second chance. I'm sure he feels horrible for what has happened, and would just like to continue to serve the community of Danube better than any other "Danubite" ever has. As far as channel 9, they are simply looking for ratings and could care less what happens in Danube. Les Jr. is the kind of guy you want on your side, wheather it is in a fight or just to count as a friend. Also, Les Sr., even though he has a HUGE mouth, and will be the first to admit it, has served the city of Danube well. Even thought he has riled many a citizen, it has always been in the attempt to look out for Danube, in a conservsative manner. He would gladly admit he doesn't take well to slackers, and people who want to sit idley by, or be armchair quarterbacks. When he said that this is the biggest thing to talk about in Danube since they dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, he was exactly right. All of the gossip going on is ridiculous. If Danube loses Les Jr as their cop, they will be losing more than they can imagine. Small towns get very few chances of retaining great people, and Danube needs to see the big picture.

The best explanation that I've gotten is that he wasn't put on paid administrative leave because it would cost too much to have 2 full-time police officers' salaries on the payroll.

He should be on administrative leave and his father should never have been in on any discussion of the case by trhe City Council. The woman in this story is the only one with any sense. If proper protocol had been followed in the beginning, there wouldn't be any hard feelings now.

I don't understand why the entire council doesn't vote to put him on leave until the court case is over. What are they going to do if he is found guilty? Can you still hold a license as a police officer with a felony on your record? This is a very sad story. It will cause controversy in this community for years to come.

I would have thought he would have resigned long ago
