Danube people can not comment. Too much of a backlash. Many people probally most just want him to step aside and let the legal system work. A cop does not have the best interest of the City and let this come to a great town,

Back to Danube - Whenever some steals anything, no matter the value, from a government entity it is automatically considered a felony level crime. This is a serious matter. If convicted of a felony, Mr. Schneider is disqualified from being an officer of the law, and I believe that's forever.

Larry, you continue to insult people, saying they're statements are stupid, and someone is an embarrassment. Just how old are you? 12? You called him stupid for making comment with political implications yet you do the same calling yourself a leper (or republican). You do realize you're just as bad as Gary on that don't you? But then again, if you're 12 you probably don't.

I don't think it's about common sense in this case Gary. He might be a good person and that does deserve consideration in sentencing if he's found guilty. As to him being a cop, people entrust him to uphold the law, not break it. He cannot continue to serve effectively if found guilty and every arrest he makes after a guilty verdict will be tainted. He has to be able to arrest people with the reasonable assumption that the arrest will not be questioned due to integrity issues. If he's a good guy, let him get probation but he should not work as a member of law enforcement for the forseeable future.. again, if he's found guilty.

The problem with not taking at least a leave of absence is now his credibility in any cases from here on till the trial are suspect at best. His character is in question...Maybe not in the city of Danube but in a broader scope and eyes of the law any decent lawyer could use that as a powerful tool to get their defense more credible to the jury/judge

Gary - opinions have nothing to do with laws. You can't break a law because in your opinion it is a silly law...

Gary, It's not about common sense it's about the law. You are saying if a person is a good person but makes a mistake they should be let off with a slap on the wrist.. I think it is irresponsible to think that a cop should hold his job after admitting theft from the very people he is protecting.

Kevin, it's all a matter of opinion. We all see different incidents differently. Lots of people, for example, are against the death penalty, until they are the father or mother of the victim of the crime. Then they are all for it. In this case, I say we all make mistakes. Do we end his career for it? If a kid brings a swiss army knife to school, by accident, never takes it out of his pocket, and never threatens anyone with it, and another kid brings a buck knife to school and threatens to kill his teacher with it, do they deserve the same punishment??? Of course not. That's what I'm talking about. Give him a slap on the wrist, like YOU would do if it were someone you know is a good guy. A little common sense goes a long way, if you're willing to use it.
