The mother of the "at-risk" child with asthma has been misinformed. If she vaccinates only that child, the other children may bring that strain into the household, anyway. Our allergist recommends that everyone in the household gets the flu shot to protect our household members, including the child with asthma. I, too, find the increase in children's deaths alarming here just at the beginning of winter. This number will not only rise due to another type of flu; many parents do not have the common sense to keep their sick children at home any more. Period.

Thanks for the laugh Carrie. Gosh, I really shake my head when people comment about the government not getting the vaccine here sooner, especially the ones that want government out of their lives. Ya sure ya betcha. I could see them being upset if Obama and staff hadn't taken this seriously from the get go and were just now putting in the order.....

Casey - I'm sure Harold is convinced that Obama is Production Manager at the vaccine plant... and that, yes, Obama is able to lay eggs... or, at the very least, pay people to lay eggs for him. Never mind that vaccine development procedures are antiquated (50 years since there's been an update or improvement in the method)... that's Obama's fault, too - he's holding down advancement of technology to further his own socialistic power hungry cause, you know. ;)

Was Obama and the others suppose to lay eggs to make more vaccines?? What are they suppose to do other than put in their order in a timely manner and wait, like all the other countries are doing, for the vaccine makers to grow the vaccine?... Do you remember the bird flu? Do you remember Bush lagged behind on ordering tamiflu and we had to wait two years for our order to be made? Luckily the bird flu didn't spread easily, right?

"Swine flu has sickened about 22 million Americans since April and killed about 540 children."...... That is an alarming number of children from part of spring to part of fall. When the seasonal flu hits and takes lives too, these numbers will be very alarming.
