I disagree with the claim regarding the Revolutionary war. The government of the time knew the populace had arms. That revolution happened because enough of those people got fed up and fought together against a similarly armed government. Today, those who think our firearms are a protection against the government live in a fools paradise. We are so out gunned it would only result in a suicidal slaughter. Hence, most arguments against registration are moot.

Had these laws been enacted during the times of our founding fathers, we would have never had the revolutionary war. only the tories would have had the weapons, and they were on the side of the king. with 300 million people or more in our country and as many if not more firearms. were talking about a few bad apples. Most citizens wouldnt use a weapon to hold up a liquor store, or mug an old lady. the ones that would ignore the laws that we have. so whats the solution. first, instead of spending millions of dollars on lobbyists and the like (on both sides), should use that money for better purposes. lets get all guns registered, that way if its used in a crime it can be tracked, second lets treat this like we treat sex offenders. everyone has the equipment to engage in a gun crime, only a few are predisposed to do so. when a crime is commited, we can figure out whos gun it was, and where to look for them. if it was stolen we still have a good idea of who committed the crime. third, education and safety are extremely important. most gun owners are more likely to be shot by their own guns then by anyone elses finally, anyone that is willing to sacrifice liberty for security, deserves neither

With all the violence and the guns in the wrong hands the more laws we can enact especially against the bad guys is always good. The good guys have nothing to worry about, but some states do over do it, and not abide by the constitution, but there is no value you can put on safety. Dick your right about one thing, the bad guys don't worry about laws, no matter how many are put on the books, but laws are what make the bad guys pay when they finally get caught. and in time they all do. We cannot predict the behavior of a person who maybe bent on wiping out as many people as he or she can, but we can make it more difficult in weeding out those with criminal records or those who suffer from mental issues. Harold I will be you a thousand dollars the government will not take our guns away today, or thrity years from now. The scare tactics people like you love to use, are an example of your thought process and your ignorance against those you disagree with. i'll take my money in cash Harold, if you want to put your money where your mouth is. I am a hand gun instructor with the state, and a rifle instructor with the NRA, and there is no such talk about this type of lunacy as people like you try to predict. The NRA teaches gun safety, and has numerous videos and training to teach people and young teens how to use rifles and guns. Obama is not out to take our guns, he is out to make sure that the wrong guns don't end up in the wrong hands, once again that is what the people expect of him or any other president. Gee Harold get the foil off your basement walls, and chase that monkey out of there as well. Our guns is our hertiage and there hasn't been a politician alive that can change that.

Put your money where your mouth is, Harold. I'll bet you $100 that your prediction of no guns in the home will not happen. You name the year you expect this to occur.

Dick, did you even read the article or did you just go off on that same old tired argument when you read the headline? What is threatening to you about allowing the police access to this information.

It's silly to think we even need federal laws about gun safety. America has millions of guns, any of which might be "dangerous" in the wrong hands. The people with the "wrong hands", who are willing to act out with a gun have always ignore gun laws anyway. In any proposed or existing "gun law", one could just as well substitute the word "Knife" or "hammer" and the same "logic" would apply. These laws waste billions of dollars and do nothing for public safety. Repeal the silly laws we have, don't enact more.
