Doesn't including both parties make sense?

Rick the conclusions are very encouraging however we also need realize that this call comes on the heals of what once considered a major success for fighting HIV in that same country through the promotion of condom use. There is a connection here I believe and it comes from honest and open discussion and the availability of preventative measures. They put it out on the table and allowed the discussion to be ongoing and ultimately it was the people who started to value themselves again. This is indeed hopeful Rick, but we will need to likely follow a similar path in this Country as we open the discussion and not polorize it and shut it down because we want it one way or the other.

So you don't agree with their conclusion or the success in Uganda from their abstinence and fidelity program? One of the problems with this country is we believe people will act on their baser instincts and have no self control.

Rick it was interesting however what it does not touch on is the already on going rise in unproctected sex that has continued to grow among a cross section of people. We need to not be naive here we need to understand that as sexual beings people are going to have sex regardless of what their church, parents, or teachers say on the matter. A much more scary thought that I took from the article was how many more unwanted pregancies would have occured. Condomns work far more often than they fail and we need to acknowledge that we are going to need proper and available pregnancy protection aside from abstanance if and when we limit the availablitiy of abortions.

So Karen when we are talking about equal responsibility between the impregnater and the impregnated, are you implying that the impregnater should have an equal voice in making the decision to kill the baby or not?

Very interesting article. Maybe some of the best evidence yet that faith in condoms increases risky behavior. Draw your own conclusions. http://stmichaelsociety.com/2010/02/05/harry-knox-pope-benedict-and-the-debate-on-condoms-in-africa/#more-2719

No Karen, rape = rape, incest = incest and murder/killing = murder/killing. They are all violent crimes and can be perpetrated against both males and females. BTW for some strange reason rape is a vernacular term. According to our state laws the crime is sexual assault in various degrees. IMHO the punishment for rape has never been severe enough. Was there a real question in there or don't you understand the words?

Karen, both! I'm not here to argue; just making a statement of my belief. Too many people in society need to blame others or want to take the easy way out, be it self gratification or caring for children.

When we talk about personal responsibility, are we talking about the impregnated or the impregnator? And when we talk about abortion 'out of convenience' are we talking about 'out of convenience' for the impregnated or the impregnator?

dar there still are plenty who object to the availability of birth control for all on grounds of religious beliefs. While it maybe available it is not getting to where it is most needed. It is a big issue isn't it, and simple answers are not going to bring about the needed solutions. We all have got some work to do.
