I KNOW HOW KANDIYOHI WORKS !! IF YOUR FREINDS WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT, PROSICUTERS, OR JUDGES, OR AN INFORMANT YOU WILL WALK ON CHARGES OR GET MINIMAL PUNISHMENT. THE MAN WHO RUN OVER OLD JOE SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH 3 FELONIES AND A HAND FULL OF OTHER THINGS FOR THAT !!! WE'LL SEE WHERE THE SYSTEM PULLS ON THIS ONE !!!!

Would you protect your family member after they commited a crime? I sure hope not. Ofcourse you support them, but someone who runs someone else down and then has no memory of the incident has some serious problems. If Mr. Mattson does not remember anything, then I feel sorry for him. I also believe he needs help. Someone who runs someone over and then has no memory of it should not be allowing his patients to place their safety in his hands. If I was to accidentally run over your small child at night and keep going because I thought the "bump" was a pack of ice on the road and I was charged with three misdemeanors, would you be satisfied?

So - my question is what if the outcome was different, should the perpetrator be charged with something different - I think not. What is is what is. Do not judge on criteria that has no relevance in the situation. Tom was ran over and luckily alive but hurt severly - and the man left the scene, that is what is questionable. Excuse me but I don't care what the guy had going on - nobody leaves the scene of any accident and feel bad not matter what - that is the answer. Guilty. So don't ask me to be on that jury.

Sadie from Duluth is one of the few lucid people to comment on this story. It was an accident, simple as that.

I'd like to know why there is not a toxicology screen done after the accident - there is no way to rule out any mind altering substance besides alcohol now. Also, if you read the report, it wasn't until nearly 4 hours after the accident that any bloodwork was done. I am not casting any blame, it just raises a lot of questions.

Shouldn't he also be charged with littering?

If he didn't know what happened, and didn't believe he hit anything, why did he pull over in the first place? He had to have known what he did...at least he had enuogh conscience to pull over. However, by denying any knowledge of the matter, he losses. As for the RCW bus....Sadie, did the driver of the bus deny any knowledge of hitting the car? To compare this incident to that one is ridiculous. This guy shouldn't be getting away with simple misdemeanors.

PLus if you read the police report Mattson story doesn't tally up with the officers descriptions. Example "Mattson claims that he pulled over after he saw the flashing lights, however the the police officers report he reporst seeing amttson standing on the side of the road waving his arms in the air, then turning on his lights. Plus Mattson claims that he doesn't drink anymore, but why is he stashing beer bottle (empty, full and on that is open)? I think that the police did everything they could in what had to be a kaotic mess. However I do believe that if it was an "average joe" they would have been sitting in jail that night. A witness can place mattson truck as the truck taht ran tom over. I just don't understand how he can only get three mis. and not a single felony, I mean he almost killed a man.

I thought about it, and I shouldn't say a lot of them. It sure feels that way sometimes. Most of them are very level headed.
