Right on Randy! This is set up to be plea barrg. down to a slap on the wrist probation small fine. The civil case will be more interesting, but then this is the stuff that clogs our court systems and rightfully so!

It'll be interesting to read this chat board throughout the day. I'm waiting for the defenders of Mattson to show up. Will justice prevail? Don't hold your breath.

Joe R., the dog was not injured. The dog even visited him in the hospital. The dog was being cared for by friends, I believe, while he was in the hospital.... I would assume the officer didn't know who had hit the man at the time he/she was talking to the driver and that is why the driver was allowed to leave. The worst part, his denial! I hate that when guilty people deny what they did, especially when there are witnesses.

Joe......the dog is fine. :-) As for the rest of this, it's NOT fine. Absolutely ridiculous. Whether there was alcohol involved or not, three misdemeanors is ludicrous. I agree that the deputy ought to be checked to see if he's right in the head for allowing Mattson to leave the scene. This is not justice at all - this yahoo will be out driving in no time, if he isn't already, with a slap on the wrist and a warning not to do this again. Sure, that'll happen. This is insane. Mr. Mattson, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

I would be interested in knowing why the deputy he spoke to isn't on suspension pending further investigation of this case. it seems suspicious to me that he was allowed to leave the scene at all.

What a shame and a painful experience for the poor blind guy who thought he was doing everything right only to get run over and add more problems to the problems he seems to have over-come. Nicholas I was a bit confused myself on the charges so maybe there will be a more definate explanation on why one of these charges were not a felony? I am blown away on how he can claim he didn't know he ran over the guy, but had the presence of mind to flag down a deputy, then drive away after the cops checked out the accident scene. He acted as though he saw the person in the road and stopped! How can you not know you ran someone over especially if the blind guy was dressed in a yellow coat with reflective strips on it? Does anyone know if the dog survived or was it also injured?
