This problem really shows how Americans have really messed up the system. We complain when things get cut, we complain when taxes are raised.... We will vote for the politician who promises us the most. We don't care about the good of the country, we care about the good of ourselves. We don't want to tighten our belts because that affects us. We max out our credit cards, purchase homes we can't afford because we want everything now! The government does the same thing. They pay for everything with future money, and that all well and good but when things get tight we get ourselves into a real pickle. What we need to do is really tighten our belts, we may have to raise taxes and cut programs. It is too late to get ahead of the issue.... We are now trying to respond and get back to even par. Hopefully when we finally get back to even we need to learn from our mistakes. The government can't spend like crazy. They need to only spend the money we already have. They need to save up a rainy day fund so when this happens again. (and it will happen again) we can stay ahead of it and keep it from getting this bad. and We as a nation have to allow this to happen. We have to do what's best for our country and not what's best for our pocket books. We can't just elect officials who promise us the most but who will help this country the most. When the Nation heads in the right direction it will be good for us. But unfortunately that will NEVER happen, and that is why we are doomed to repeat mistakes over and over and eventually the country will completely fall apart.

One need only look at Colorado Springs to see the future of Minnesota cities. Their aversion to any tax increase has resulted in the cutting of dozens of police and firefighting jobs, shutting off 1/3 of the cities street lights, residents are being asked to mow city parks and dispose of park trash, and museums, libraries, recreation centers etc have reduced hours or closed completely. Gary is right. There is no free ride.

As long as Minnesotans (and Americans in general) keep falling for the "no new taxes" Republican ruse to gain votes, this is what can continue to be expected. Ain't nothing free in this world.

And this is someone thinking about making a serious bid for the presidency! This man cares nothing about the well being of the people of Minnesota. He made a promise not to raise taxes 8 years ago and has vowed to stick with it no matter the cost to the residents of the state he was elected to protect. Times have changed in the last 8 years T Paw. Maybe it's time to take another look at that promise.

If you live in a gated community, don't worry, you'll be fine.
