If I understood this correctly these folks would have been added to the the MN Care program for health insurance. It does have a sliding fee scale and provides dental and eye care. It is not that they were going to dumped on the street with no state health care. Please correct me if I misunderstand this.

Shelly - very, very well said and it is the only thing that makes sense -but the politicians can't see that. What you have proposed would work very, very well. AND Larry - I am sorry - I work in health care and deal every single day with those who absolutley cannot get health care and will sincerely DIE without their meds but they have no choice - they chose to eat. I call that selfish on our part.

you make it sound like every poor soul in minnesota was going to be without coverage. it did make for a more effective and sensationalized rallying cry i must say. no one seems to want to bring up fact that 2 other tiers of benefits were and still would have been available. have you ever heard of medical assistance and the other is mn care? i guess we have to have 3 safety nets. selfish Karen? no we are fighting for our economic lives and you just keep loading up the shopping cart

Rather than just eliminate people from the health plan why don't they create a plan where those folks that earn more, pay a small deductible and co pay like the rest of us who purchase our own insurance. Customize the coverage to fit the need. Eliminate dental and vision unless they can pay extra for it (I don't currently have either offered to me) and make it on a sliding scale based on income, the more you earn the more you pay. Instead they cut people who can't live independently without help and children who won't get the medical care they need. This will only cause problems down the line for the state. Or like Karen said, an emergency situation leaves a hospital with a huge loss. Get insurance away from being attached to employers, if you lose your job you lose your insurance. Create affordable policies available to everyone.

I am very, very sad. I simply can't believe that we feel the need to pass on our troubles to the poorest of the poor. Seems like it is those who have the most that want to take away from the poor. Unfortunately what people don't get is that if we take that away those people will not have care until it is an emergency and then it will cost us an incredibly larger amount of money - how selfish we have become. Really sad.

The fact that there are more people than ever suffering economically in this state curently, and the need for people to be able to count on state programs, such as medical assistance (etc), has risen, it is a bad time for the state to make budget cuts that consistently effect those in the most need. I understand the need to slow the spending, but I do not understand passing the burdon of those cuts to those that can handle that burdon the least. -- I have to say, too, this is the first time I've seen Minnesota compared to Moscow. Wow.

So far the Senate has passed a $1 billion plus bonding bill and an override on a health care program for adults. Hasn't anyone in the Senate heard that WE ARE OUT OF MONEY!!?? This is why the out of touch or out of their mind Democrat Party has to be deleted from the Senate. Just keep spending and taxing. I'll move to Texas with my customers. MN has the same climate as Moscow. Now it appears that the biggest difference between Moscow and Minnesota is that Communists have been discredited in Moscow.
