And by "most conservatives" - do you mean the conservatives that are not in a position to facilitate change? If you are not willing to help - you are part of the problem. Keep up the hate!

Really productive comments Kevin. Seriously productive. With such thoughtful contributors to the comments section of the WTrib, it's a wonder why we face the problems that we do. "Most conservatives want to help the elderly"... that's rich. Do you think they are helping by trying to derail reform? It must be nice not having to worry about about your survival like the woman in the article. You got yours - screw everyone else, ya?

Kathy, I got your sarcasm loud and clear and did laugh a little. I imagine if your living or working in this field, it's a sensitive subject. My parents are nearing 90 as well, live in their own home, and everyday it's a concern. Believe it or not...my mom does work, she helps look after "an old lady", who has Alzheimer's and lives in her own home. That's what its come down to, old people taking care of old people. It's a sad state of affairs when you read this in the trib, and just yesterday was an article about a couple being charged with felony welfare fraud. Maybe we need to put as much effort into filtering those folks out of the system rather than leave the elderly and people with disabilities without services. Liberal, right-winger or whatever, this affects everybody.

Jacque..I was being sarcastic..totally... although maybe I should have included a little derision to the lady for probably relying on a "socialist " program to live...S.S. or Medicaid in all likelihood , heck maybe both.

To Kathy A..........OMG the woman is 89 years old just where do u think she will find a job. Maybe the goverment should find different ways to fund projects without doing it on the backs of seniors. Maybe they should all do away with their pet projects, that goes for both parties and that should save a whole mess of money.

She should "pick herself up by the bootstraps" and get out and get herself a job instead of sitting at home waiting for someone to take care of her...
