Luke--$12 Billion a month at the federal level. How much of your county's budget going to HHS? 55%? 60% 70%? If people truly need help, they should get it. But I witnessed a lady trying to buy dogfood for her dog via foodstamps at the grocery store. When told she could not do that-- she left the dogfood sitting, went and got a 10# pkg of hamburger....hmmmm Well if people are truly in need of help--- #1 They better be American citizens (Birth Certificate and photo ID), #2 They have to live in community the last 6 mos, #3 If they able bodied they better show proof of attempting to seek employment. If they meet these conditions-- no problem-- give it out. BUT we all know how it REALLY works. Just ask a widowed grandma on fixed income! The grandma and her husband worked here and paid taxes all their life-- she gets nothing because her home is paid for! But border jumpers?---- hmmmm Yes, even the ones from Texas! Go figure our wonderful system!

Luke that 50% that don't pay taxes is probably about 90% leftist's, now that's the bunch to divert your concern to.

Brett A. who in God's name are all of the people who want to sit back, do nothing and receive entitlements?! That is absurd. I can't name any. I know a lot of people. I know of no one who wants to do nothing and receive everything. I work in human services field. There are limits to assistance. There are rules and regulations. We spend a lot less on welfare than we do on other programs. Give it a break. If your so upset at wasteful spending, direct your anger at the 12 billion a month Iraq war bill. Now that really gets me going.

“Now, there’s no doubt that Obama broke a promise on mandates. And he’s had to answer for that in interviews with reporters. It’s certainly accurate to say that he campaigned against a mandate. Remember, Clinton was in favor a mandate and much of the debate on health care centered around THAT word. And because of the mandate, the irony for the left -- now up in arms about mandates -- is that her plan was the one that was seen as the more liberal. “Those two arguments above -- that he actively campaigned against the mandates, and that his health care plan actively called for a ‘new public insurance plan’ seals the deal beyond the need for anything more.” He added, “[C]ampaigns are mostly about themes, you know that. Obama promised he would take on special interests and fight for regular people. He promised change you can believe in. Instead he cut a deal with the insurance and pharmaceutical industries, is embracing a bill that they love which is wildly unpopular with the public, and never fought for a public option which Americans overwhelmingly want. As the petition that accompanies our ad says (which his own staffers, volunteers, and donors signed), that's not change we can believe in.” Interesting article from NBC First Read, last Dec. A whole lot of liberals disagree with you steve. http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/12/23/2159620.aspx

Steve P.-- what is truly sad is that we are generating a whole new class of Americans that do not realize the "American Dream"! They believe they are entitled to sit back-- receive Govt payouts (welfare, food stamps, health/dental care, disability, etc. etc. etc.) simply because they deserve it! Where has the American spirit gone? Where has the belief of hard work and sweat will lead yourself to better things? Where has the struggle to better oneself and his/her family gone? Why has Govt become so much a burden on working people? Oh-- we live in a new utopia. I'm disadvantaged...Govt needs to help me out. Give me benefits and I will vote for you! Well I think we should follow the lead of eastern European immigrants to this country...they work hard for the American dream! They work to better themselves with no Govt handouts. They live the American dream better than the sorry "deadweights" currently leeching here. So how do we fix this problem? How do we change this behavior? Clinton made a dent in welfare reform....but it has returned in a two-fold problem with the recession. How do we transform the "dead American" into the eastern European immigrant? That is the task at hand-- not MORE Govt dictating and spending more TAX $$$'S ... Just my little thought on things.... but Joe knows WAAAY more than me. Individuals make a difference-- Not GOVT! Thats America, and we have forgotten America! Till that changes-- we are headed for China to call in their markers-- then instead of the "LOUISANA PURCHASE" it will be known as the Beijing Claim. How sad we have become/// the greatest nation, the greatest bastion of freedom, the greatest potential on Earth... we have become what we originally escaped in 1776-- and we let it happen!

Again, your comments are baseless. He's following his campaign promises, so that must mean the country is left-leaning? Just be honest, that you don't like black people, and let's move on. I mean, really. It's the only missing piece of your persona that tie all your arguments together. You and your isolated band of cowering old white guys, striking out at a changing world, like hurt little children. It's just plain sad, and disgusting to watch. I would recommend some budding psych student at Ridgewater make a case study from your online behavior. Sorry, but the rest of us are moving forward.

Steve P. you say reasonable and moderate Republicans, Of course Steve, just remember what you may consider a reasonable and moderate Rep. someone else may consider them a liberal.calling a person a Rep. does not mean that they are not liberal, history abounds with examples of this, after all Obama campaigned as a middle of the political spectrum candidate.maybe leaning left, but nothing as he is proving to be.

John S, I went to the U, and one of my classmates was Tim Pawlenty. We worked together on the Durenberger campaign. Back then, there were reasonable, moderate republicans. Today, you'd tar and feather someone like Durenberger. No doubt about it. Watch your step.

Rick did I say she did? No. Would it be nice to have her respond? Yes. If you care to look Sue asked me a question and I responded to it. I personally don't think the question is that difficult but so be it.
