APPLETON — Leona Elsie Zahnow, 77, of Appleton died Wednesday at Appleton Area Health Services.

APPLETON — Leona Elsie Zahnow, 77, of Appleton died Wednesday at Appleton Area Health Services.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Appleton. A private family burial will be at Appleton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church with the parish prayer service at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton.

She was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Minneota to Edward and Mary (VanHecke) Van Loy. She attended at St. Edward’s Parochial School.

She married Wilfred Zahnow on July 19, 1951, in Canby. She worked as a waitress, at Fingerhut, Wagner’s Hardware and for the City of Appleton. She was a member of St. John’s Altar and Rosary Society and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband; seven children: Vernon Zahnow of Loganville, Ga., Karen Guenther of Minnetonka, Patricia Kohlman of Holloway, Susan Zahnow of Appleton, David Zahnow of Appleton, Stephanie (and Brian) Mahoney of Waconia and Paul Zahnow of Appleton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister: Agnes Serbergen of Papillion, Neb.

She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
