HECTOR — Susan VanderVoort, age 61, of Hector, passed away Sunday at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
HECTOR — Susan VanderVoort, age 61, of Hector, passed away Sunday at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector. Interment in the Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Susan Jane VanderVoort was born June 6, 1948, in Litchfield, the daughter of Otto and Helen (Alseth) Hagemeister. She was baptized on Aug. 1, 1948, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater and confirmed May 19, 1963 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector. Susan grew up in Hector and graduated from the Hector High School.
On November 16, 1968, Susan was united in marriage to Donavon VanderVoort at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector. They lived at Fort Benning, Ga., for a year prior to living in Mankato for three years. After living in Owatonna for three years, they returned to the Hector area where they lived and farmed in Hector Township. They were blessed with four children: Shane, Kendra, Jessica, and Joshua. Susan was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector, and enjoyed working in senior dining at the Hector Community Center preparing meals. Susan loved summers at the family lake home where she got to spend valuable time with her friends and family, especially with the grandkids. She took pleasure in cooking, gardening, and reading, and was talented at decorating and crafts, such as cross stitching, ceramics and pottery.
Susan is survived by her husband, Donavon VanderVoort of Hector; children, Shane VanderVoort and his wife Kelly of New Prague, Kendra VanderVoort of Minnetonka, Jessica VanderVoort and fiancé Jonathan Page of Plymouth and Joshua VanderVoort of Hector; grandchildren, Alix and Ashley VanderVoort; sisters, Sandra Hagemeister of Young America and Carol Hagemeister of Willmar; and by family and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents.
