Vern Denton was born on June 23, 1929, in Willmar, the son of Vern and Grace (Haats) Denton. He grew up in Kandiyohi County and received his education in the rural schools.
On Jan. 31, 1958, he was married to Hilda Ruschen at the Christian Reformed Church parsonage in Raymond by the Rev. John Stek.
They made their home in the Raymond area their entire life and raised three daughters. Vern worked for various employers, doing manual labor and enjoying the outdoors. He later was janitor at the Raymond Christian Reformed Church for 10 years and, in his last years, enjoyed mowing lawns and removing snow for various neighbors and friends. He was a longtime member of the Raymond Christian Reformed Church and a member of the SELAH Group at the church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and tilling up gardens for neighbors and friends. Vern moved into the Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home in February of this year after having a stroke.
He is survived by three daughters: Veronica Denton of Raymond, Vickie (and Brian) Everitt of Universal City, Texas, and Nancy (and Tom) Murphy of Hutchinson. Also surviving are two grandsons, Isaac and Andrew; and two sisters: Marilyn Eliason of Willmar and Shirley (and Dan) Magnuson of Hamel, besides other relatives and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Hilda, in 1997.
