SPICER — Arlys R. Grimm, 90, of Spicer, died Thursday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
SPICER — Arlys R. Grimm, 90, of Spicer, died Thursday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Memorials are preferred to Faith Lutheran Church or Rice Hospice.
Arlys Ruth Grimm was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Hector, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Enzenhauer) Wenzel. She grew up in the Hector community and graduated from Hector High School. She attended Mankato Business School.
While at business school, she met Douglas Grimm and they were married on Feb. 22, 1941. They lived for a short time in Sausalito, Calif., and Mantorville before moving to Hector. Arlys worked as a teller at Security State Bank in Hector and also served as the bookkeeper for the family business, Hector Plumbing, Heating and Electric. She also played organ and directed the men’s choir at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector.
They moved to Spicer in 1990. They wintered in Arizona and Gulf Shores, Ala. Arlys enjoyed bridge and played several times a week. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, dancing and golfing. She loved her grandchildren and recently celebrated her 90th birthday with them.
Arlys is survived by her children, Lowell Grimm (and friend, Joleen Durken) of Hector and Gail (and Jerry) Johnson of Spicer; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas in 2006; a daughter-in-law, Judy; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.
