Minnesota authorized 10,800 additional acres to strengthen habitat for pheasants 
WILLMAR — During the recent “Pheasant Fest” event held in Des Moines, Iowa, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture was authorizing 300,000 additional acres for specific conservation practices under the Conservation Reserve Program.

Poultry workshops set this month in Hutchinson, Lamberton 
FAIRMONT — University of Minnesota Extension and Rural Advantage are offering three poultry workshops for those who are currently producing poultry or for those that are interested in getting started. The sites include Hutchinson and Lamberton. There is a cost to attend and registration is necessary. There will be CDs with the information presented and further materials for each attendee.

Minnesota Turkey Council elects new members 
ST. PAUL — Minnesota’s turkey growers have elected five members to serve on the Minnesota Turkey Research and Promotion Council. The council members are turkey industry representatives who serve as leaders and advocates for the Minnesota turkey industry and work to improve its profitability and viability. The council meets about eight times per year and board members serve three-year terms.

Plan for spring flood uncertainties 
ST. PAUL — A combination of climate features — including a wet fall season and heavy, wet snowfalls all winter — have elevated the risk of spring flooding on many Minnesota watersheds. One obvious consequence of spring flooding in western and southern Minnesota counties would be delayed field working conditions in the agricultural landscape.

Storage facility loan program to be discussed during Ag Show
