Youth's death determined to be accidental drowning
GRANITE FALLS -- Drowning was officially determined to be the cause of death for the 10-year-old boy who was pulled from the pool at the Kilowatt Community Center in Granite Falls on April 3.
Eddie Armando Ojer Barrios, of Montevideo, had been pulled from about seven feet of water and air lifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center after a school outing to the Center. He died April 4 at the medical facility.
His death was determined to be an accidental drowning, according to a report Granite Falls Police Chief Russ Blue said he received from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. The report was very brief and limited to describing the cause of death as an accidental drowning, said Blue.
The chief said the report concludes his department's investigation into the death.
Ojer and other students were at the pool as part of a reward day for their academic performance. Paramedics had attempted CPR at the scene but had not been able to revive him.
