Sunburg comes alive for some County Line baseball

County Line League baseball is played in small towns but none quite as village-like as Sunburg (pop. about 100), in northwest Kandiyohi County.

The Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers play at Willie Reigstad Field, just a well-hit fly ball from the center of town.

On a hot and breezy Sunday, the Lakers played host to the New London-Spicer Twins.

The Sunburg ball field was built in the early 1970s to replace the Norway Lake Lakers' home field after the land it was on was sold in 1969.

The uprooted team played two summers in New London until the Sunburg ballpark was ready, according to Obert Gjerde, who helped build the field and is a member of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
