WILLMAR -- One-third of this year's Willmar Senior High graduating class plan to attend Ridgewater College in the fall.

They are part of the 82 percent of this year's 270 graduates who are planning to seek some type of post-secondary education. The class included 137 boys and 133 girls.

The high school's guidance office released the results of its annual survey of graduating seniors on Monday. The seniors were surveyed on May 27, one of their last days of school.

According to the survey compiled by Shari Courtney of the counseling office, two students in the class received appointments to military academies. Chloe Donoho and Nathan Johnson will both be attending the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo. Two other male students will also be entering the military.

Many of the students who will be attending Ridgewater are planning to transfer to a four-year school after completing general education requirements.

Their plans after graduation:

- Private colleges: 21 boys, 27 girls; 18 percent of the class.

- Four-year state schools: 35 boys, 31 girls; 25 percent of the class.

- Community/technical colleges: 50 boys, 55 girls; 39 percent of the class.

- Seeking or have full-time work: 14 boys, 10 girls; 9 percent of the class.

The class also included four female foreign exchange students.

Five students, four goys and one girl, plan to travel.

The class has six special education students and eight who said they had "other plans."

The size of this year's class was smaller than 2010's 289 students but larger than the class of 247 that graduated in 2009. In the past 10 years, the largest class was 327 in 2003, and the smallest class was 247 in 2009.
