Agralite Electric Cooperative working to restore power to members

From staff reports

BENSON -- Agralite Electric Cooperative headquartered in Benson continues to work on restoring power to co-op members after Friday storms in the area.

The main concentration of the outages is in the Odessa and Sunburg areas, according to a news release from the co-op on Monday.

Agralite has devoted all personnel to restoring power to members. Crews from two other cooperatives and a contractor are assisting, according to the release. Restoration is slowed by the number of trees and branches in the lines.

Restoration was also difficult because damage was across Agralite's entire service territory from Ortonville to Brooten and Donnelly to Appleton. The damage took place in many locations, rather than in a concentrated area where crews could focus their attention.

The first outages were reported at about 1:30 a.m. Friday as the storm moved from west to east across Agralite's territory. A second storm Friday evening added to the storm damage.

Crews have been working 16 hour days since Friday morning.

Every Agralite member experienced power interruptions from these storms. Poles on transmission lines feeding substations were damaged so the substations went dark. Not many repairs can be completed until substations are powered up.

After that, repairs start on main feeder lines and move out to smaller lines and then individuals. The goal is to safely restore power to as many people as possible as quickly as possible, the co-op said in the release.
