Coroner investigating Norway Lake death, victim name released

NEW LONDON — The 66-year-old man who died Sunday after being tipped from a personal watercraft on Norway Lake is Larry Dirksen of Montevideo.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office responded to the medical emergency about 3:30 p.m. on the lake’s north side. Dirksen collapsed near the shore and stopped breathing shortly after the watercraft tipped.

He was later pronounced dead at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. The Kandiyohi County Coroner is continuing to investigate the cause of death.

Paffrath killed in falling tree incident

NEW LONDON — The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a 53-year-old Owatonna man killed in a tree-cutting accident Sunday afternoon near New London.

The man is Ted Raymond Paffrath, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday. Paffrath was struck by a large tree.


WILLMAR — The theft of a GPS was reported around 7:40 p.m. Sunday along Bernard Street Southeast.


WILLMAR — A 23-year-old man was arrested on charges of driving while impaired, driving after revocation and giving a false name to a peace officer around 3:45 p.m. Sunday along the 500 block of Russell Street Northwest.

WILLMAR — A 30-year-old woman was arrested on a theft charge around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Wal-Mart, 700 19th Ave S.E. The woman had allegedly taken $72.88 in clothing.
