Local agencies net their share of ‘leadfoots’ during July enforcement

ST. PAUL — Law enforcement agencies from across the state cited 17,415 motorists for driving at illegal and unsafe speeds during a statewide speed enforcement campaign from July 6 to 21, according to reports from 328 law enforcement agencies. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety coordinated the campaign.

Reporting agencies cited at least 12 motorists for traveling more than 100 mph during the two-week campaign. Area law enforcement agencies participated in the campaign and here are the number of citations their officers issued and the highest speed recorded:

Atwater Police: 4 citations, 56 mph in 30-mph zone

Benson Police: 10 citations, 66 mph

Chippewa County Sheriff: 5 citations, 88 mph

Dawson Police: 11 citations, 74 mph

Kandiyohi County Sheriff: 54 citations, 84 mph in 55-mph zone

Lac qui Parle County Sheriff: 41 citations, 79 mph

Meeker County Sheriff: 5 citations, 98 mph

Montevideo Police: 4 citations, 38 in 30-mph zone

Olivia Police: 2 citations, 71 mph

Paynesville Police: 16 citations, 74 mph

Pope County Sheriff: 9 citations, 77 mph

Renville County Sheriff: 14 citations, 78 mph

Renville Police: 5 citations, 50 mph in 30-mph zone

Sacred Heart Police: 3 citations, 58 in 30-mph zone

Swift County Sheriff: 5 citations, 74 mph

Willmar Police: 43 citations, 87 mph

Yellow Medicine County Sheriff: 12 citations, 76 mph
