Horse killed, passenger injured in Eden Valley crash

EDEN VALLEY — A horse was killed and a woman injured in an early morning motor vehicle crash around 5:25 a.m. this morning southeast of Eden Valley.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, James Doll, 51, of rural Watkins was driving a 2005 Dodge minivan north on County Road 34 when the vehicle struck a horse that had run into the roadway.

The horse was thrown into the front end of a parked 2013 Chevy Avalanche occupied by Sonja Harms, 54, of Litchfield.

A passenger in the Doll vehicle, Linda Doll, 54, was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The horse was killed in the incident. The animal and other horses that were loose in the area are owned by Robert Kelly of rural Watkins. Kelly removed the dead horse and rounded up the rest of the horses.

The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Also responding were the Eden Valley fire and rescue departments and the Watkins Ambulance.
