Willmar advances Brown in singles, Ellingson/Marcus in doubles to Section 8AA meet
WILLMAR -- Andrea Brown at singles and the Willmar pair of Allie Ellingson-Leslie Marcus earned spots in the Section 8AA tournament next week with impressive starts in the Sub-Section South tournament on Thursday.
Brown. No. 1 singles this fall for Willmar, won three matches (losing only five games total) and will meet Central Lakes Conference rival Aryn Anderson of St. Cloud Tech today for the sub-section championship.
Anderson, the No. 1 seed, handed Brown her only conference loss this season.
Ellingson-Marcus will play for third place after going 2-1 at Gold's Gym. They lost to No. 1 seed Leslie Engdahl-Melissa Lisbon 0-6, 2-6 after two straight victories to start the tournament.
Play starts today at 4 p.m. at Gold's, which will host the 8AA quarterfinals through championship next Wednesday.
Sustaining first-round losses yesterday for Willmar were Amanda Bredeson in singles and Brittin Dahle-Eva Rodelius in doubles.
