Volleyball: Minneota repels CMCS bid

MINNEOTA -- Minneota won a showdown between two of the top three teams in Class A Monday, beating Central Minnesota Christian 25-21, 25-18, 17-25, 25-23 in the Camden Conference championship.

The Vikings are ranked No. 2 in the final state poll and the Bluejays are No. 3. Minneota also beat CMCS in a meeting earlier this season, 3-1.

"There was a lot of momentum going both ways," said CMCS coach Traci Grussing. "Our serve receive wasn't as strong as it should have been. But out hitting and defense was strong."

The Bluejays' top five hitters only committed 14 errors and were led by Hillary Slagter with 16 kills. Beth Bulthuis followed with 12.

Jenny Blom was a perfect 22 for 22 from the service line with two aces. Kresson Vreeman had 35 set assists and Becky Schwitters recorded 17 digs.

CMCS will be the top seed in the upcoming Section 2A-North tournament, which starts Thursday. The Bluejays host eighth-seeded Cleveland at 7 p.m. in Prinsburg.
