GRANITE FALLS -- Arbie Charles Beavers, 80, of Granite Falls died Saturday at his home following an extended illness.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wing-Bain Funeral Home Chapel in Granite Falls. Burial with military honors will be at Doncaster Cemetery in rural Granite Falls.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

He was born Jan. 24, 1925, in rural Granite Falls to Ralph and Myrtle (Stewart) Beavers. He attended school in Granite Falls. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, in the Asiatic Pacific, and saw combat in the battle of Luzon. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Independence Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant and returned to Granite Falls.

He married Hazel Sites on June 6, 1948. He farmed with his wife from 1955 to 1960, and then moved to Colorado, where he worked on a dairy farm. They returned to the Granite Falls area in 1965 and he worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1990.

He was a member of the Granite Falls VFW Post 3871.

He is survived by his wife; daughters: Barbara (and Andy) Kjersten of Sacred Heart, Beverly Johnson of Granite Falls; five grandchildren; former son-in-law: Dale Johnson of Granite Falls; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings: Harvey (and Kathy) Beavers of Granite Falls, Marvin Beavers of Monroe, Wash., Chester (and Truly) Beavers of Dolan Springs, Ariz., and Celia Saunders of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
