Barber facing challenge at Q-school

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Aaron Barber faces a long climb to get in contention for one of 30 PGA Tour exemptions available at the Final Stage Qualifying Tournament.

The 33-year-old New London native is tied with 13 others at four-over 148 after shooting a 74 on both Wednesday and Thursday at the Panther Lake Course at the Orange County National Golf Center.

Fortunately, the Q-School final is a six-round event, which leaves golfers who start slow, time to mount a rally.

Barber earned his PGA Tour card in the 2002 tournament in California.

Barber had one birdie and three bogeys Thursday. He has played on the Nationwide Tour the past two years.

Michael Allen at 12-under par has a six-stroke lead on the field. Currently, the 30th best score is at three-under.
