Willmar still seeks first win

SARTELL -- Willmar broke it's two-game scoreless streak, but couldn't muster anymore in a 9-1 loss to Sauk Rapids/Sartell in Central Lakes Conference girls hockey action Thursday.

The Cardinals' Allie Sweep scored to tie the game 1-1 on assists from Sarah Hulscher and Nikki Serbus. Willmar managed seven shots on goal.

"We played well in the first period and that's the way its been the last three games," said Willmar coach Ross Dahl.

Things changed after the first intermission as Willmar was held to three shots on goal while Sartell peppered Willmar's freshman goalie, Ashley Hutton, with 27.

"We're having difficulty stringing together three good periods," Dahl said. "We have to find a way to make the game simpler and get the puck in the goal."

Kelly Meierhoffer scored two goals and picked up two assists to lead Sauk Rapids/Sartell. Rachel Stoebe added two goals and an assist.
