Kleindl to be named new Kandiyohi County administrator

WILLMAR -- Larry Kleindl, director of the Kandiyohi County Family Services Department, is expected to be named today as the new administrator for Kandiyohi County, according to Kandiyohi County Board Chairman Dean Shuck.

Kleindl will replace Wayne Thompson, who has served as county administrator for 28 years.

Thompson said in November that he would officially announce his retirement in July. It's not known exactly when Thompson will leave the job and when Kleindl will take over the position. Thompson has said in the past that he would assist the new administrator during a transition period.

The County Commissioners have not held any public meetings on the issue of replacing Thompson and have not taken a formal vote on hiring Kleindl. The Commissioners did not advertise for the position and did not seek outside candidates, said Shuck.

The Commissioners will also have to find a replacement for Kleindl's post as head of the Family Services Department.

The county is currently in the position of hiring a new Human Resources Director. Advertisements for that position were placed and candidates are expected to be interviewed in the next few weeks.
