Softball roundup: ACGC's Blackwell no-hits NLS

NEW LONDON -- Junior Kalina Blackwell spun a no-hitter and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City plated 12 runs in the sixth inning to beat New London-Spicer 16-1 in six innings Tuesday.

Blackwell issued just two walks while striking out four.

The Falcons (1-0) owned a 4-1 lead before erupting in the sixth. Rachel Wright went 3-for-3 and Tiffany Schultz had two hits to ignite the offense for ACGC.

Leadoff hitter JoLynn Berg drew a walk and stole second base in the first inning before scoring the lone run for the Wildcats.

BBE also pounded out 12 hits, led by Tiffany Gruber with three singles and three stolen bases. Jenna Schroeder had two hits, including a grand slam to right field in the seventh inning. Bridget White also had two hits.

Brandi Bast picked up the win, allowing five runs on six hits in seven innings. She struck out four and walked one.

Redwood Valley (1-0) scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning off of two Montevideo errors.

The Thunder Hawks' best chance to score came with bases loaded in the first inning, but they were unable to push a run home.

The Bulldogs won their second non-conference game in two days with some heavy hitting. Melanie Mages smashed a three-run homer in the second and Laura Schaefer drove in two runs with two doubles. Ashley Ogdahl added three of the team's 11 hits. Emily Mohr pitched the win.
