Legion Baseball: Willmar blanks Cold Spring in first round

ST. CLOUD -- Ross Van Hauen and Jeremy Elkjer combined to shut out Cold Spring while Jason Otte and Matt Roisum delivered two-run singles to help Willmar pick up a 7-0 win at Dick Putz Field in the first round of the St. Cloud Invitational.

Van Hauen gave up just two hits while striking out four in five innings to pick up the win. Elkjer completed the shutout after allowing one hit in two innings of relief. Van Hauen also pitched six shutout innings in Willmar's 9-0 win over Litchfield last Thursday.

Willmar (5-2) scored all of its runs in the first four innings. Tyler Horning opened the scoring by coming home on an error in the first. Otte's two-run single and Kyle Birkland's sacrifice fly in the second extended Post 167's lead to 4-0.

Matt Seehusen singled in Roisum in the third before Roisum capped the scoring with a two-run single in the fourth.

Willmar plays Monticello today at 3 p.m. on Joe Faber Field. The tournament runs through Sunday.
