WILLMAR -- Hazel Mae Chaney, 92, of Willmar died Friday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be at the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Willmar Meals on Wheels or Willmar United Methodist Church Home Visitation Program.

She was born March 14, 1916, on a farm near Hecla, S.D., to Thomas and Katie (Kruse) Kenny. She graduated from Hecla High School. She worked for several businesses in Britton and Watertown, South Dakota.

She married Preston Chaney in 1940 in Ortonville. Preston was employed on the railroad and they moved to Willmar after he was transferred there. She was a homemaker. Then she worked as a nurse's aide at Bethesda Nursing Home. Later she worked as a nurse at the Willmar State Hospital until her retirement. She moved into the Pleasantview Memory Care Unit in Willmar in January.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and retired railroad workers' groups. She volunteered at the state hospital and at Lafayette Elementary School in Willmar as a crossing guard.

She is survived by her children: Calvin Chaney of Willmar and Kathy Newton of Denton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three step-children: Raymond, Frances, and Beverly; three brothers; and four sisters.
