BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Helen Jean Verone Arnold, 71, of Broken Arrow, Okla., died Monday at her home after a long illness.

The military service and burial are today at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Okla.

Arrangements are by Kennard's Funeral Home in Broken Arrow. Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association in New York.

She was born July 27, 1937, in Willmar to Oscar and Esther (Ness) Pederson. She attended public school in the Willmar area and graduated in 1954 from Willmar High School. She served in the United States Air Force. She attended Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., as an art major.

She married Phil Arnold on Feb. 3, 1956, at McGuire Air Base in New Jersey.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters: Kathryn (and Gary) McDowell of Lawton, Okla., Karen Arnold of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Kimela Arnold of Broken Arrow; granddaughters; three brothers: Virgil (and Ione) Pederson of Willmar, Robert (and Naomi) Pederson of Willmar and Gaylord (and Margaret) Pederson of Willmar; and two sisters: Marsha (and Paul) Bueide of Scotts Bluff, Neb., and Orla Lawler of Reno, Nev.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
