PAYNESVILLE -- Robert Allen Westvig, 67, of Paynesville, died Saturday at St. Cloud Hospital.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Paynesville Evangelical Free Church in rural Paynesville. Burial will be at the Paynesville Cemetery with military honors by Paynesville American Legion Post 271.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

He was born April 10, 1941, in Aitkin to Sigvald and Lois (McFarland) Westvig. He graduated from Aitkin High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964 in Germany.

He married Linda Ford on May 15, 1965, in Deerwood. They lived in the Minneapolis area where he worked for Butler Manufacturing, UPS and Yellow Cab, and he leased the Dairy Queen in Bloomington. They moved in 1971 to Paynesville where they owned and operated the Dairy Queen. He also operated heavy equipment for the Local 49.

He was a member of the Paynesville Chamber of Commerce and volunteered to cook pancakes for Paynesville Pancake Day. They started the little Miss/Mr. Dairy Queen Pageant in 1990. He was a member of the Paynesville Evangelical Free Church.

He is survived by his wife; children: Richard of Maplewood, Roxanne (and Bruce) Nielsen of Lake Benton, Rebecca of St. Paul, Russell (and Darla) of Big Lake; five grandchildren; his mother of Paynesville; siblings: Kenneth (and Beulah) of Aitkin, Marvin of Fergus Falls, Alice (and Bill) Anderson of Eau Claire, Wis., Warren (and Sue) of Coon Rapids and Dale (and Greta) of Chanhassen.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.
