Editorial: Falk is our choice for Dist. 20A

House District 20A voters have a new choice this election: Democrat-endorsed Andrew Falk of Murdock and Republican-endorsed Mike Bredeck of Madison. Incumbent Rep. Aaron Peterson did not seek re-election.

Both Bredeck and Falk are good and decent men, both products of the district, one that is geographically larger than the states of Delaware or Rhode Island. The district includes Big Stone, Lac qui Parle and Swift counties and parts of Yellow Medicine and Lincoln counties.

In a narrow decision, the West Central Tribune believes Falk would best represent this district.

Bredeck is a retired teacher, guidance counselor and coach at Lac qui Parle Valley High School in Madison and earlier at Madison High School. He is now a regional manager with Catholic Aid Insurance. He is an independent politician, who is running his own campaign without his party's involvement. His expertise lies in education, people and agriculture.

Falk is a fifth-generation farmer from Swift County and a founder of a renewable wind energy company. He has worked on political and legislative issues. He has worked most recently on renewable energy legislation, an issue of growing importance to the district and west central Minnesota.

This longtime Democrat district also has a political consideration in this race, as the House Democrats will likely increase their majority in Tuesday's election. Having a representative as part of that majority can be advantageous.

The West Central Tribune endorses Falk for election in House 20A.
