Suspects held in Clarkfield burglary, search

BOYD -- Two individuals who allegedly entered a home in Boyd, threatened and attacked the homeowner and forced him to relinquish a key to a safe are being held in the Lac qui Parle County Jail in Madison.

The adult male suspects are awaiting their initial court appearances. Their names and more information will be released after the court appearances, according to Ian Hodge, chief of police for Clarkfield and Boyd.

According to Hodge, two men entered the home around 9:15 a.m. Monday and attacked the homeowner when he entered the home. They then forced him to hand over a key to a safe and then ordered him to lie face down on the floor and threatened him with a knife.

The man was able to get free and escape out the front door of the home. He was chased by one of the suspects, who dropped a large amount of cash during the chase.

The Lac qui Parle County Sheriff's office, Clarkfield/Boyd Police, Dawson Police were dispatched. One suspect, in his late 40s, along with another male who was held for questioning, were apprehended during a search of the area.

A State Patrol helicopter, along with a State Patrol ground unit, plus Canby Police officers, personnel from the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's office and a K-9 unit from the Chippewa County Sheriff's department, assisted in the search for the other suspects.

The search included the area around the home and four other homes in the area.
