Garage fire cause investigated
WILLMAR -- The Willmar Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire early Saturday morning that destroyed a garage and sent one firefighter to the hospital for treatment for overexertion.
The name of the firefighter, whose name was not disclosed, was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital by Willmar Ambulance and was treated and released, said Willmar Fire Chief Marv Calvin.
Calvin said a passerby saw flames coming from the garage at the home of Luther Septon, 222 15th St. S.W., at about 5 a.m., and called dispatch. Firefighters found flames coming from the side and roof of the garage.
Firefighters contained the fire to the garage, which was destroyed. A shop and a couple of vehicles inside the garage were destroyed and a couple of restored antique vehicles were damaged, said Calvin.
Firefighters were on the scene for about 3½ hours. The Pennock Fire Department was called to assist with manpower, said Calvin.
The cause is being investigated but is not considered suspicious, said Calvin. He suspected the blaze was caused either by a wood stove or an electrical problem.
