Federal investigation in Meeker County ends with no charges filed

LITCHFIELD -- The Anoka County Attorney's office will not prosecute for state charges regarding a November 2007 FBI investigation in Meeker County.

According to a news release from the Meeker County Attorney's Office, Anoka County will not file state charges related to a federal investigation in Meeker County after seven months of reviewing the case.

In June 2008, the U.S. Attorney's Office declined to file federal charges following the November 2007 investigation in Meeker County. The investigation included FBI interviews with numerous individuals -- including law enforcement officers -- at the county courthouse and law enforcement center. The target of the investigation has never been released.

The Anoka County Attorney's Office took the case in June to review for any possible state charges related to the matter. The Meeker County Attorney's Office passed the case to Anoka County to avoid a conflict of interest.
