*** HUTCHINSON -- The University of Minnesota Extension, through the Woodland Advisor program, is offering classes on carbon credit payments including an event from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Country Diner on the Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. Carbon credit payments are currently offered for low-tillage planted crop fields (defined as no-tillage and strip-tillage), new grassland (alfalfa and grass hay fields, CRP, grasslands) planted after Jan. 1, 1999, new tree plantings (tree plantings, shelterbelts, windbreaks) planted after Jan. 1, 1990, on-farm methane digesters and existing sustainably managed forests. *** WILLMAR -- Emily Schueler and Bethany Urban will be crowned as the 2009 Kandiyohi County dairy princesses at the county dairy banquet at 7:30 p.m. March 7 at the Kandi Entertainment Center in Willmar. Tickets for the banquet are $15 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available from the current dairy princesses, the candidates and the dairy association board of directors.

*** NORTH BRANCH -- Dairy producers, friends and supporters are invited to attend the 2009 Annual All-Breed Dairy Convention from March 5 to 7 at the Grand Casino Hotel & Convention Center in Hinckley. The event includes the annual meetings of the Minnesota Holstein Association and the Minnesota Purebred Dairy Cattle Association, plus a luncheon to honor the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association's outstanding breeders, and an all-dairy banquet honoring members from all cattle associations. *** WILLMAR -- The U of M Extension Service and Kandiyohi County Environmental Services will conduct a seminar on the value of manure from 9 a.m. to noon March 11 at the Kandiyohi County Office Building in Willmar. Crop and livestock producers can learn about the economic value of manure and calculate the value of manure for their operation. To provide one-on-one assistance, the workshop will be limited to a small group. To register, contact Russ Hilbert, the Kandiyohi County Feedlot Officer at 320-231-6547 by Tuesday.

*** EAGAN -- A free agricultural education training will be offered for Minnesota producers who want to become more comfortable planning and delivering school visits and farm field trips. The training will be from 1 to 4 p.m. March 24 at the Minnesota Farm Bureau Office in Eagan.
